Lecture 12: Religious and Defensive Architecture of the Islamic World Part 1 (narrated version)

The presentation focuses on cases studies to showcase examples of religious and defensive architecture.

Religious and defensive architecture in the Islamic world plays a significant role in defining the identity of traditional settlements. Expanding on the diversity of such structures in different parts of the Islamic world, their importance has been demonstrated both in relation to the past, e.g. as a protection against possible attacks, and to the present, e.g. as manifestations of universal value.

By virtue of their economic, socio-cultural, historical, and touristic value, these structures continue to play an important role in the development of surrounding settlements.
