Dave Orlando & Fandy Gunawan

Indonesia

Dave Orlando is an architect and interior designer who founded his own studio in South Jakarta in 2019. His practice is known for combining a modern mid-century aesthetic with a strong emphasis on spatial clarity and everyday functionality. The studio adopts a hands-on, iterative design process, where learning through doing plays a central role. Orlando’s approach consistently prioritises how spaces are used and maintained, ensuring that design serves both form and function in equal measure. Before establishing his studio, Dave studied architecture in London and Prague, and he worked at the renowned Andramatin Studio for over two years.

Fandy Gunawan Studio was established in 2018 by the Indonesian architect Fandy Gunawan following nearly a decade at Andramatin. Gunawan’s design approach is defined by a minimalist aesthetic, spatial clarity, and functional precision. He emphasises collaboration – not only between architect and client but also with the surrounding context. Each project seeks a balance between restraint and expression, ensuring that the built environment responds meaningfully to human needs and natural conditions. His work reflects a belief in architecture as a quiet yet powerful medium to shape experience, contributing to a more thoughtful, enduring architectural landscape in Indonesia.
