Elora Hardy is the founder and creative director of IBUKU, a Bali-based design studio pioneering architecture in close conversation with nature, craft, and place. Since 2010, she has led the creation of over 200 buildings using bamboo and other natural materials, redefining how architecture can be shaped by the intelligence of its environment. Her work resists the divide between tradition and innovation, drawing on Indigenous knowledge while exploring new structural and spatial possibilities.

Raised in Bali and trained in fine arts at Tufts University, Elora Hardy brings a cross-disciplinary sensibility to design – merging intuition with collaboration. Under her leadership, IBUKU’s practice has expanded internationally, adapting its ethos to diverse climates and cultures, and evolving its palette beyond bamboo to include a wider range of sustainable, site-responsive materials. Her work has been recognised by the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Architecture Master- Prize (AMP), and Architectural Digest, and her TED Talk has reached over 5 million viewers. Through her practice, Hardy advocates for architecture that listens – to materials, to landscape, and to the interdependence of all living systems.
