ﺴﻠﻂ اﻟﻔﺼﻮل اﻷﺳﺎﺳﯿﺔ اﻟﻀﻮء ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﻮاﺿﯿﻊ اﺳﺘﺸﺮاﻗﯿﺔ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺤﯿﺎة اﻟﯿﻮﻣﯿﺔ ﻛﺎﻟﺤﺮم، و اﻟﺤﻤﺎم، و اﻟﻤﻘﺎھﻲ، و ﺳﻮق اﻟﻨﺨﺎﺳﺔ. و ﻗﺪ دُﻋِﻤﺖ اﻟﻠﻮﺣﺎت ﻓﻲ اﻟﻜﺘﺎب ﺑﺎﻗﺘﺒﺎﺳﺎت ﻣﻦ ﺻﺤﯿﻔﺔ «L’Illustration» و ﻣﻦ ﻛﺘﺎﺑﺎت اﻟﺮﺣﺎﻟﺔ و ﻣﺬﻛﺮاﺗﮭﻢ. و ﻟﻢ ﯾﻜﺘﻒِ اﻟﻤﺆﻟﻔﺎن ﺑﺎﻟﺤﺪﯾﺚ ﻋﻦ اﻟﻤﺼﺎدر اﻟﻐﺮﺑﯿﺔ و ﺣﺴﺐ، ﺑﻞ ﺗﻨﺎوﻻ أﯾﻀﺎ ﺑﻌﺾ ﻣﻤﺜﻠﻲ ھﺬه اﻟﺤﺮﻛﺔ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻌﺜﻤﺎﻧﯿﯿﻦ ﻛﺎﻷﻣﯿﺮ ﻋﺒﺪ اﻟﻤﺠﯿﺪ )اﻟﺨﻠﯿﻔﺔ ﻻﺣﻘﺎ( و اﻟﻤﺴﺘﺸﺮق اﻟﻌﺜﻤﺎﻧﻲ ﻋﺜﻤﺎن ﺣﻤﺪي. و ﺑﺎﻋﺘﺒﺎر أن ﻓﻦ اﻟﺘﺼﻮﯾﺮ ﻛﺎن ﺟﺰءا ﻣﻦ ﺻﻮرة إﺳﻄﻨﺒﻮل و أﻧﮫ دُﻋﻢ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺒﻼط اﻟﻌﺜﻤﺎﻧﻲ ﺧﻼل ﻓﺘﺮة ظﮭﻮره، ﻓﻘﺪ أﻓﺮد ﻟﮫ اﻟﻤﺆﻟﻔﺎن ﻓﺼﻼ ﺧﺎﺻﺎ. ﻛﻤﺎ و ﻗﺪ أﻟﺤﻖ ﺑﺎﻟﻜﺘﺎب ﻗﺎﺋﻤﺔ ﺑﺄﺳﻤﺎء اﻟﻔﻨﺎﻧﯿﻦ اﻟﻐﺮﺑﯿﯿﻦ اﻟﺬﯾﻦ زاروا إﺳﻄﻨﺒﻮل ﻣﻨﺬ ﻋﺎم ١٨٩١ﺣﺘﻰ ﻋﺎم ١٩١٦ و ﻋﺪدھﻢ أﻛﺜﺮ ﻣﻦ ١٦٠ رﺳﺎﻣﺎ ﻣﻦ ﺑﻠﺪان ﻣﺨﺘﻠﻔﺔ ﺑﻤﺎ ﻓﯿﮭﺎ ﻓﺮﻧﺴﺎ و ﺑﺮﯾﻄﺎﻧﯿﺎ و أﻟﻤﺎﻧﯿﺎ و إﯾﻄﺎﻟﯿﺎ و اﻟﻨﻤﺴﺎ و اﻟﻮﻻﯾﺎت اﻟﻤﺘﺤﺪة 
و اﻟﺪﻧﻤﺎرك و ﺑﻠﺠﯿﻜﺎ و ﺳﻮﯾﺴﺮا و ﻣﺎﻟﻄﺔ و ﺑﻮﻟﻨﺪا و روﺳﯿﺎ و ھﻮﻟﻨﺪا و اﻟﻤﺠﺮ.

و ﻗﺪ رﺟﻊ اﻟﻤﺆﻟﻔﺎن ﻟﻌﺪد ﻛﺒﯿﺮ ﻣﻦ اﻟﻮﺛﺎﺋﻖ و أﻋﺪا ﻣﺠﻤﻮﻋﺔ ﺷﺎﻣﻠﺔ ﻣﻦ اﻟﺼﻮر و اﻟﺮﺳﻮم اﻟﺘﻮﺿﯿﺤﯿﺔ ذات اﻟﺠﻮدة اﻟﻌﺎﻟﯿﺔ و اﻟﺘﻲ ﯾﻮﺟﺪ أﻏﻠﺒﮭﺎ اﻟﯿﻮم ﻓﻲ ﺗﺮﻛﯿﺎ. و ﺗﺸﯿﺮ اﻟﺪراﺳﺔ إﻟﻰ أن «إﺳﻄﻨﺒﻮل ﻛﺎﻧﺖ إﺣﺪى أﻛﺜﺮ اﻟﻤﺮاﻛﺰ ﻧﺸﺎطﺎ ﺑﺎﻟﻨﺴﺒﺔ ﻟﻤﺴﺘﺸﺮﻗﻲ اﻟﻘﺮن اﻟﺘﺎﺳﻊ ﻋﺸﺮ، و ﻗﺪ أﻧﺘﺠﻮا ﻓﯿﮭﺎ ﻋﺪدا ﻛﺒﯿﺮا ﻣﻦ ھﺬه اﻟﻠﻮﺣﺎت اﻻﺳﺘﺸﺮاﻗﯿﺔ».

نُشر اﻟﻜﺘﺎب ﺑﺎﻟﻠﻐﺘﯿﻦ اﻹﻧﻜﻠﯿﺰﯾﺔ و اﻟﺘﺮﻛﯿﺔ ﻣﺎ ﯾﺸﻜﻞ ﻣﺴﺎھﻤﺔ ﻛﺒﯿﺮة ﻓﻲ ﻣﺠﺎل اﻟﻌﻼﻗﺔ ﺑﯿﻦ اﻻﺳﺘﺸﺮاق و إﺳﻄﻨﺒﻮل ﺧﻼل اﻟﻘﺮن اﻟﺘﺎﺳﻊ ﻋﺸﺮ.
