This book is a collection of scattered adventures that befell the city of Kerman through its history. These events are mostly related to Kerman but a notable number pertain to incidents in surrounding areas and other cities in the province of Kerman, namely Zarand, Bam, Kahnuj, and Sirjan. A more apt title for this book might be: “Witty Historical Stories about the City of Kerman”.
The work comprises approximately six hundred historical pieces that have been organised with an emphasis on the political history of the city of Kerman. The stories have been arranged without any particular order, thus readers can pick from among the adventures in accordance with their own interests and time.
The book has deliberately avoided some of the features of academic works in history in order to be more attractive to the general reader. Sources have either not been cited or have been included as incomplete footnotes. Despite the haphazard organisation of topics, the index and the titles chosen for each entry help readers to quickly find their topic of interest. The incidents covered in this book are not of equal importance. One can suddenly come across a noteworthy document or issue amidst a mass of insignificant accounts.
The work contains several illustrations of documents and maps from the province and city of Kerman. The author has also included a number of personal experiences and memories, but their only connection to the city of Kerman is that the author is from that city.
The author’s aim of writing a historical book for the general public is noteworthy, as it is rare in Iran for a researcher to adopt a style and content such as this. While this approach may make up for some of the work’s shortcomings, it will not fulfill the expectations of specialist readers and researchers of Kerman.
