The introductory essay for this special tenth anniversary issue of the International Journal of Islamic Architecture (IJIA), the theme of which is ‘“Islamic Architecture”: Reflections on the Field’, recounts the journal’s foundation in January 2012 and the editorial principles that have guided its work since then. Its author, IJIA’s founding editor, also reflects on the journal’s contributions to the study of Islamic architecture, as well as the need for a more inclusive and diverse future for the field.
