Architecture and Urban Development of the Deccan Sultanates: Adil Shahi Rule and its Influence on the City of Bijapur (Lecture 3)

Consisting of eight lectures, the series, Architecture and Urban Development of the Deccan Sultanates, begins with an overview of the evolution of Indo-Islamic architecture and the manner in which the newly introduced social, cultural, and political ideals and religious beliefs and the existing Indian traditions interacted and shaped the architectural style. In this lecture, the third of the series, you will learn about: 

• the Adil Shahi dynasty and its influence on Bijapur;
• the evolution (morphology) of the citadel and its main architectural features;
• the main architectural monuments and water infrastructure.

This series of lectures was prepared in collaboration between the Centre for the Study of Architecture and Cultural Heritage of India, Arabia and Maghreb (ArCHIAM), based at the University of Liverpool, UK, and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture Education Programme.
