In Mughal Architecture, I attempted the first synthesis of my survey of the Mughal buildings of the Indian subcontinent, a statement of my research that had its beginnings in the middle of the 1970s. This survey laid the base for my project of a documentation of all palaces and gardens of Shah Jahan with photographs and measured drawings, which I am at present preparing. for publication. An aspect of this research became my doctoral thesis for the University ofVienna wherein I focused on Shah Jahan's throne at Delhi and its programme.
