Even a cursory overview of the inventory of the palace library of the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II (d. 918/1512) reveals that the section on invocations, the special qualities of the Quran and magic squares stands out. As opposed to other sections in the inventory, in addition to volumes, the section contains a fairly large number of inscribed objects: talismanic shirts, skullcaps, amulets of different types and shapes.
