En 2010, la maison Ghazal. 1, monument historique et ancien lieu de vie quotidienne, est inhabit.e depuis un siecle, le souvenir de la vie domestique en est perdu. La rupture provoquée par le changement de mode de vie à la fin du XIXe siècle, et par l’adoption d’une modernité venue d’ailleurs, s’accompagne d’un profond rejet du passé. Au début des années soixante, l’État syrien achéte les parts de deux des trois fréres Ghazalé, puis, en 1977, celles du troisiéme. Dans les années deux mille, la maison est prise en charge par la Direction Géneérale des Antiquités et des Musées de Syrie (DGAM) en vue de sa transformation en musée de l’Histoire de la ville d’Alep afin de lui redonner vie. Apr.s une phase de recherches, les travaux débutent par la restauration de la structure et de la maçonnerie et se poursuivent en 2010 par la remise en état des boiseries peintes, la création de nouvelles boiseries (destinées à remplacer celles qui manquent) et la préparation des collections qui doivent y être exposées.
