Memorandum Regarding Fathy's Plan For The Village of Musayhib, Iraq

Type
report
Year
1958
Written To: Hassan Fathy

Date: July 7, 1958

The memorandum, probably written by Constantinos A. Doxiadis, is in response to the plans prepared by Hassan Fathy for the village of Mussayhib in Iraq. The document calls for finding a middle ground between the generalization of ideas and a focus on details in design, in order to progress within the spirit of ekistics and to achieve a true national conception for the project. He makes three main remarks of Hassan Fathy's plans for the village. The first is a call for a modulus system in building design. The second is a call for the standardization of buildings by splitting Hassan Fathy's building plans into several building categories in order to be able to repeat such plans and designs in future village projects. The third remark made by Doxiadis on Fathy's plans is to keep the movement of pedestrians in mind while planning for the village.
