The Padres Santos Chapel is a mausoleum chapel built by Christian missionaries on land granted by Akbar (r. 1556-1605). He invited them from the Jesuit missions in Goa, to serve as educators and advisers to the court and to minister to foreign residents in Agra. The chapel stands in the Christian burial place known as the Martyr's Cemetery, and is believed to have been a mausoleum for Khwaja Martinus, an Armenian, or for the priests martyred in 1633. Priests from various nations including Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Holland, and Italy are known to be interred in the chapel.
