Palm Jumeirah
Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Palm Jumeirah is one of three man-made islands located on the Jumeirah coastal area of the Emirate of Dubai. In the form of a palm tree, the resort doubles Dubai’s existing coastline and will house a population of 70,000. The real estate/ planning model is based on a combination of landscape iconography and reclamation technology. The island consists of a trunk connected to the mainland by a bridge, a crown with 17 fronds, and a crescent island breakwater that connects to the palm by a subsea tunnel. A light rail links the different parts of the island to the city’s transportation network.
