DiGi TOC consumes some 30% less energy than the average data centre. The main office and circulation spaces are fully glazed for maximum daylight penetration, while shading devices limit direct heat gain and thus reduce cooling loads. A continuous green wall around the building’s facade increases the biodiversity of the previously devastated site. A living art installation, this ‘vegetated skin’ also acts as a biological air filter and dampens external noise. Energy-saving variable-speed pumps are installed for air-conditioning, cold water and exhaust systems. Green materials include low-VOC paints, adhesives and carpets and recycled, environmentally friendly plasterboard wall and ceiling linings. Further green measures include photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting.
