Laurence Loh is a leading conservation architect and cultural heritage expert in Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific region. He trained at the Architectural Association in London, and his architectural practice of 35 years, LLA Arkitek, has consistently delivered highly commended projects related to both new-build designs and as well as building conservation and planning. Best-practice exemplars include the restoration and adaptive reuse of the world-renowned Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, Penang, which received a 2000 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award of Excellence, and the restoration of Merdeka Stadium (Independence Stadium) in Kuala Lumpur, the recipient of a 2008 UNESCO Award of Excellence. He is presently the Deputy President of Badan Warisan Malaysia, a trust providing advisory services and skills training in the field of heritage conservation, and technical advisor to the Penang Heritage Trust.

In parallel with his architectural work, Mr Loh also devotes time to education. He teaches annually at the University of Hong Kong, where he is an associate professor, and at the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property in Rome. He is a UNESCO World Heritage Site evaluator and a Heritage Awards judge and technical consultant. A recent project involved the creation of an Urban Conservation Planning course in Malaysia in conjunction with the Getty Conservation Institute.
