Thierry Grandin

Thierry Grandin is an architect DPLG, affiliated to the Order of Architects of Île-de-France (086408) and to the Order of Syrian Engineers from 1988, member of ICOMOS France (FRA 40087), and consultant for rehabilitation projects for the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in Aleppo, Salamieh, Qadmous, and Damascus in Syria. He also studied History of Art and Architecture, French ethnography and rural architecture in the School of the Louvre Museum.

 

His office was established in 1988 in the Old City of Aleppo, until the events of 2011. During this period, he was also a consulting expert for GTZ (German Development Agency) in the field of the "Project for the Rehabilitation of the Old City of Aleppo” project established in 1992, and for the “Directorate of the Old City”, created in 1999. This institution (DOC) was responsible for the development of the strategies inherent to the Old City, for the supervising of urban and architectural studies, the building permits, the planning and the maintenance of the roads and of certain monuments.

 

Thierry Grandin participates in several missions for IFEAD, IFAPO, UNESCO, WMF for projects in Babylon in Iraq, Myanmar, Thailand, Tunisia and Libya, ICOMOS for projects in Tunisia and Libya and ICCROM for youth capacity building in Mosul in Iraq, with the Museum for Islamic Art in Berlin within the framework of Stunde-Null, and also in different studies, publications and conferences, and beyond.
