The eighth Safavid ruler, successor to Shah 'Abbas II. Born as Sam Mirza in 1648/1057 AH. Enthroned first as Shah Safi II in 1666/1076 AH, and enthroned under the new name of Shah Sulayman in 1668/1078 AH, after a bout of illness blamed on an inauspicious coronation.
