Mihrimah Sultan was the daughter of Ottoman sultan Süleyman II (Kanuni Süleyman) and his wife Hürrem Sultan. She married Rüstem Paşa, who due to his status as sultan's son-in-law, would become a vizier. Mihrimah, in conjunction with her husband and mother, became a powerful force at court in her later years, remaining influential well after her father's death during the reigns of his two successors. She is known as a poet, diplomat, and a patron of architecture and public works.
