Sandra Hiari

Jordan
Sandra Hiari is an urban planner, writer and architectural critic. Sandra holds dual graduate degrees in urban design from the City College of New York (CCNY/CUNY) in Manhattan and planning from the Jordan University for Science and Technology (JUST) with a bachelors degree in architectural engineering for the University of Jordan. She completed a leadership development programme at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. 

Her career is diverse; on one hand, she has been co-managing public projects and urban legislation for various funding agencies including the Greater Amman Municipality and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities (at which she was named the Ministry's project coordinator for the World Bank & USAID portfolios). On the other hand, she has worked in publishing for various entities including Foster + Partners, MARK Magazine and JO Magazine among others. Her writings have been awarded as she holds the second prize in the European Award for Excellence in Writing granted by the European Union Delegation in Jordan in 2011. 

Her interview with Zaha Hadid has garnered more than 160,000 views on YouTube at the time of writing this bio. Sandra delivers public talks and lectures on urban planning, governance and women. Past talks included the International Women's' Forum in Washington D.C., PricewaterhouseCoopers, Institut Français, German Jordanian University & Columbia University Middle East Research Center . Sandra has appeared on media including BBC World to various local radio shows. She currently consults for the World Bank. Previously she worked for the Amman Institute for Urban Development, the Center for the Study of the Built Environment, and at the office of Sahel Al Hiyari on the architect’s first monograph produced under The Rolex Mentor and Protégé programme.
