Krikor (or Kirkor) Balyan was an architect employed by the Ottomans to construct the Nusretiye Mosque in Istanbul. He is first in a line of members of his family to construct Ottoman imperial monuments. The Balyans would make a permanent impact on the landscape of Istanbul with their innovative mosque and palace designs, that blended local ideas with other European styles.
