Filiz Çakır Phillip

Filiz Çakır Phillip is Curator at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto. She studied Art History and Classical Archaeology, Turcology and Museums Management and was awarded a Doctor’s degree in Islamic Art History at Freie Universität Berlin. She worked as curator at Museum of Islamic Art, Berlin and has been Senior Fellow at Excellence Cluster TOPOI and Research Fellow at Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz—Max-Planck-Society and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Filiz Çakır Phillip has published on Islamic archaeology in Ottoman lands, Islamic arms and armour, Islamic book bindings and drawings, including “Enchanted Lines: Drawings from the Aga Khan Museum Collection”, a book showcasing the drawings in their historical and artistic context. Her latest book on Iranian arms and armour goes into depth on so far unpublished objects from the two major Islamic arms and armour collections of Berlin, the Museum of Islamic Art and the German Historical Museum.
