Nur al-Din Abu Qasim Mahmud ibn 'Imad al-Din Zangi. Muslim ruler in Syria and northern Iraq and successor to the patriarch of the Zangid or Zankid dynasty, 'Imad al-Din Zangi, known for his efforts against the Crusaders in Syria. He came to power in 1146/541 AH upon the death of his father and died in 1174/569. He is known as the patron of numerous monuments in Damascus, Aleppo and Mosul.
