As a photography student, traveling by bicycle for several months in 1996 and 1997 through the inlands of Mali, the beauty of small adobe mosques in remote villages astonished Sebastian Schutyser. In 2002 he went back to make an extensive photographic survey of the mosques of Niger's Inner Delta.
Archnet is proud to present a selection of photographs taken during Sebastian's trip in three collections:
- "A Journey into Mali" gathers images of the people of Mali and their activities.
- "Mud Mosques" is a systematic photographic survey of the vernacular mosque architecture in the country.
- "Mud Mosques, the B&W Prints" represent a more artistic approach to photographing the mosques in a manner that more starkly highlights their form.
