East Wahdat Upgrading Program - <div><span style="font-size: 13px;">The 1992 selection of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture reflects the impact that&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">global changes have had on the built environment in Third World countries, among&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">which the destruction of the traditional cultural structure in rural areas and large-scale&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">urbanisation. The projects selected that year, which address issues relevant to both the&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">developing and developed world, are economically sustainable, humanistic solutions to&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">difficult problems, and generate a new architectural language.
