The Masjid Al-Rahman, one of several masjids operated by the Islamic Society of Central Florida, was the first mosque in Orlando. It was established in the 1970s, originally in a small trailer on Goldenrod Road in Orlando. In the early 1980s, the Society acquired a piece of land with a small house on it, which served as the first unofficial mosque while the purpose-built new building was being constructed. Omar Khalidi dates the construction of the mosque building to 1985-1987. The single-story mosque sits at the end of a long driveway and is faced in stucco and has crenelations at entrance and corner towers. In addition to the original building, a large adjacent school facility and several outbuildings have since been constructed.
The Islamic Society of Central Florida has subsequently opened numerous additional mosques in the surrounding areas.
