Masjid At-Taqwa is one of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston's southwest zone masjids. According to Omar Khalidi, it was built in 1991-1992 by the Houston architect Muhammad Siddiqui and Beck-Ford Construction contractors. In plan, the building is a square shape joined with a rectangle shape, with the roofline of the square section slightly higher. The building has a brick face with blue ornament along the roofline, a large ribbed gold dome, and a brick and blue minaret accented with a gold top.
Since 1998, a medical clinic (the Shifa Clinic) has operated in an adjacent building to the masjid. The Darul Arqam school, serving grades Pre-K through 8, is also located on site.
