At the end of April, 711/92 AH, the army of Tariq ibn Ziyad (طارق بن زياد‎) landed in Gibraltar, launching the Islamic conquest of the Iberian peninsula. The area remained under Muslim control until 1462, with the exception of a brief period between 1309-1333 when it was captured by Castille.&nbsp;&nbsp;
