Ambrosoli International School
Kampala, Uganda
To accommodate the school’s need for improved resources, an existing single storey building was replaced with a new double storey structure. A new entrance creates a mid-level approach, guiding the organisation of the new building’s functions. A confined masonry construction method was used, utilising local craftsmen and providing earthquake resistance; this is topped with a simple, fully ventilated, steel roof structure. Large overhanging eaves cater for the tropical sun. The facades are a composed relationship of solid rendered and painted walls, timber screens, large clear openings and glazed doors and windows. The rear elevation opens up to the courtyard with large lattice timber screens and an open sided multi-function hall.
