Doshma Café Gallery
Tripoli, Libya

Doshma, which means a heavily fortified type of armory, takes its inspiration from the 2011 revolution in Libya and the resulting cultural and social change. An independent arts centre and café on the road to the University of Tripoli, Doshma attracts students and architects to its flexible and open space that can adapt easily to fulfil different functions. It encompasses all activities and functions under one roof over one internal vaulted space built of cast in place concrete, with a floating platform that makes up the first floor. The structure’s glass façade was welded directly on site, as were the balustrade for the stairs and upper gallery.
