Masterplan of the Alhambra
Granada, Spain

The aim of the Master Plan, drawn up in 2007, was to create an integrated, advanced tool for managing this complex, which has been a World Heritage Site since 1984. In 2004, it was also provided with a protected surrounding area to act as a buffer zone, ensuring the complex’s integration with nature. The main pillars on which the Plan is based are preservation, sustainability, the need to view the Alhambra and the Generalife as part of a cultural landscape and the challenges involved in bringing this monument into today’s information society. Since the implementation of the proposals set out in the Master Plan 71% of these are now up and running with excellent results.
