The Terminal is located at the confluence of the Niyang and Yarlung rivers, a still-intact place of extraordinary beauty. The facility, including landing dock, waiting area, restaurant and dormitory often used by river boatmen, establishes a contextual dialogue with the landscape. The use of local stone and wood incorporates the building into its natural surroundings, at the same time bringing a strong contemporary touch. The new space requirements are organised along a zig-zag downhill promenade. The promenade down to the dock follows the natural slope for 30 metres until reaching the river’s lowest-level river mark.
