Part of the large Downtown Doha project, the annex provides administrative offices and a conference centre for the Emir’s staff of 600 people; its northern facade is shared with the Amiri Guards barracks and the Qatar National Archive to create a grand colonnade along Al Rayyan Road. The annex comprises four blocks, each with a central courtyard; between them a covered street is lighted from the top and forms central a circulation space. While some of the two-storey buildings house facilities on both floors, others contain double-height spaces. Particular attention was given to climate control, recycling, and waste management. The stone-clad buildings feature decorative timber and bronze elements.
