Evliya Çelebi describes the mosque courtyard as follows: The construction [of the mosque] began in 927 [1521] and was completed in 933 [1527]. There is an ablution fountain and fıskiyeler. . . . There are four cypresses around the pool. The larger courtyard around this courtyard is adorned with different kinds of trees.
