A residence for an acclaimed artist couple, this house and attached studio space is built on three levels: a basement, ground floor, and first floor. A green courtyard separates the house from the studio, which has its own entrance. The house is defined by a flow of spaces, from an open kitchen and dining area overlooking the front yard, to a living area with double height roof that further extends into another single height space overlooking the courtyard. This configuration accommodates the couple’s frequent larger social gatherings with indoor and outdoor space used concurrently. The hybrid concrete frame and brick masonry structure uses local brick.
