Al Saket Residence
Amman, Jordan

On an oak-forested site with a ten-metre slope, this primary residence for a couple and their two daughters is located in an affluent suburb of northwest Amman. On three floors, the living, dining, and kitchen areas are located on the ground floor; the upper two floors are cantilevered above and around the lower floor to create and protect an open courtyard that serves as an extensive outdoor living area. The exterior façades of the all-concrete structure are bush-hammered; marble and basalt tiles are used for flooring, including for exterior walkways and paving. Emphasis is given to the relation between architecture and the topography of the hilly site; most existing trees were retained.
