Modular School System
Islamabad, Pakistan

EAA focuses on the provision of education to impoverished children without access to schools; Zaha Hadid’s commitment to education and her previous experience with temporary pavilions led her team and her to contribute their work on a pro-bono basis, and a first prototype was built in Turkey in 2016. Several modules can be joined together, and each measures 11 x 4.5 metres using an extruded aluminium arch as the primary structure, easily affixed to the ground; a durable fabric membrane stretches between arches and enhances stability, while the geometry creates openings for natural light and ventilation. The modular design permits easy dismounting, transportation, and re-use, and allows a variety of configurations for different functions and places.
