On the site of a former tobacco factory on the Bosporus, the university for 1,300 students comprises six faculties, three graduate institutes, a vocational high school, four research centres, and a language school, as well as dormitories and student services, and sports buildings. The buildings are all in reinforced concrete, and design of the classroom blocks recalls the form and footprint of the earlier tobacco warehouses. The more public facilities are located closer to the coast, while the residential quarters are situated on the northern part of the site. The processing plant of the earlier factory was renovated to contain a museum.
