Bayt Nasib
Muscat, Oman

Bayt Nasib was a single-story residence located near the British Political Agency. Its date of construction is unknown, but likely was around the late 19th century. In 1906, it became the United States Consulate, rented from a Sayyid Yusuf, and expanded with the addition of a second story. The US Consulate closed in 1915 and the residence was then used by the British Royal Air Force as temporary accommodation and a permanent wireless post. It passed through several owners during this time, sold to Malallah b.Jan Habib Murad in 1930 then ‘Abdullah ‘Ali Musa Khan in 1936. In 1945, the British Consulate moved into the residence until the United States Embassy, which occupied nearby Bayt Mughub, required more space and occupied Bayt Nasib in the 1970s until 1989. It was vacant until 2004, when, along with the rest of the al-Waljat Quarter, it was completely demolished.
