Jabrin Castle Restoration
Jabrin, Oman
The project was the first restoration programme undertaken in Oman. Military forts are one of the most prominent features of Omani architecture, and the Jabrin castle is on in a string of historic defensive structures built throughout the country between 16th and 18th centuries. The rectangular plan is characterized by two adjacent courtyards within two blocks of different floor levels joined by a narrow corridor. The rectangular nucleus is flanked by a pair of diagonally opposed corner towers. The intervention consisted in rebuilding destroyed structural members, replacing of rotting wooden beams and joists, and the reconstitution of ceiling decorations.
