Compressed Natural Gas Station
Karachi, Pakistan

The programme was developed by the Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan to encourage the use of natural gas as automobile fuel. The main components of the design were the filling station and an office area, and a workshop for the conversion of vehicles to use natural gas. these functions were organised in two perpendicular wings forming a T-shaped building. The filling area is divided into five modular bays supported by hexagonal columns. These sustain a canopy by means of six triangular brackets radially disposed around each column. The same structural system is employed on a larger grid in the volume which houses the remaining functions. Offices and working areas are contained within partition walls positioned independently from the main structure and decorated externally with diagonal motifs. The structure was built in RC frame made in-situ, with concrete infill.
