Jami' al-'Ajami
Jaffa, Israel
The mosque of al-Ajami ,overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, is surrounded by the colorful plastered houses of al-Ajami neighborhood. The mosque was apparently built during the 19th century around the tomb of Sheikh Ibrahim al-Ajami. Al-Ajami is considered to be one of the prophet's companions (sahaba). The mosque was entirely rebuilt during the 20th century, and the cross-vaulted tomb structure was also rebuilt in 1992.
