Hazrat Bal Mosque
Srinagar, India

The main prayer hall is dominated by an imposing, slightly bulbous dome atop a drum pierced with pointed arches. The square plan of the prayer hall is surrounded by arcades on all four sides. Exterior facades and terrace platform are faced in white marble. With the exception of the severe windows in the women's prayer hall which would seem to be open to public view, all openeings are screened by pre-cast cluster elements. The structural system is cast in-situ, consisting of reinforced concrete frame, with infill walls made of brick.
