The overall layout is based on a traditional rahba (open plaza) arrangement. Buildings are grouped, according to their function, around a number of rahbas of various sizes and are connected by means of pedestrian pathways. Most structures are arcaded on the ground floor level, thus providing shaded points of access to shops and buildings. The complexe's focal point is the main plaza with both the mosque and a cafe serving as a social nucleus for the community center. Pedestrian movement is completely separated from the car traffic for safety purposes.
