Bandra Waterfront
Mumbai, India

The Bandra Sea Front is a five kilometers stretch of land, set against wide roads and lined with residential quarters. The residential quarters were cleaned and restored, and a public promenade with terraces, benches, amphitheatres, stalls, and parking facilities were added. The project conserved the existing mangroves, sandy stretches and rocky outcrops, and is part of a citywide movement for restoration of sea fronts. The local community participated in the project, which sought to cut costs by training labourers on-site, and by using cheap building materials.
