Three 'mini chalets' are added around an existing timber-framed bungalow to create a home for an extended family (the architect's own). The units are interconnected by means of open showers and timber walkways or decks. Communal activities such as dining and entertaining are located in the main house, along with the patriarch's quarters. Except for the concrete footings and granite piers, the new construction uses primarily recycled materials. It also strives for minimum energy consumption by enhancing natural ventilation.
