Stone Houses
Bodrum, Türkiye

The stone houses of Bodrum are fast being replaced by 'generic' structures that have no particular connection to the place. This project makes a small contribution to reversing the trend by restoring a historic tower-house and adding a new stone-built annexe to create an all-season residence. The objectives were to demonstrate how traditional elements can be compatible with contemporary needs and to revitalise the skills and knowledge of local stonemasons before their art is lost. The foundations of the existing tower are of stone, whereas the new structure is set on reinforced concrete slab.
