A massive roof the size of a football pitch covers this residential compound. The canopy is sheathed in 'shimmering aluminium' and supported by stone-clad columns that function as mechanical exhaust vents. In section, it forms a crescent moon, the 'symbol of new life that tops the minarets of Islam'. The three-part plan separates the reception area for male guests ('majlis') to the west from the women's area behind the central grand hall and the family's sleeping quarters to the east. The front facade is surrounded by a reflecting pool which flows indoors and provides cooling; a cast aluminium mashrabiyya filters direct sun.
