This compound of three houses for members of the same family employs a Singaporean modernism that responds to its climate. A fixed set of materials: masonry and stone walls at ground level; crisp stone walls and exposed timber post and beam above; and thin mono-pitched roofs atop glazing, is applied differently in each house according to the preference of the occupants. All provide carports and services at ground level, with living and sleeping areas above. Volumes are carefully arranged around pools and courts to provide vistas, while solid, semi-transparent and transparent wall planes are layered to create spatial complexity.
