This market aims to follow in the tradition of the high, vaulted bazaars of Central Asia, bringing producers, brokers and retailers together in a high, vaulted space. Like a stadium, the market’s fluid elliptical form allows maximum visibility, so that supply, demand and quality can be clearly surveyed by all parties. With brokers’ offices around the perimeter, the 350-metre-long building is naturally ventilated and has been designed to allow pedestrians, vehicles and goods to move easily through the space. It is part of a larger complex, which includes a fish market similar in form, as well as an office tower with restaurant and hotel.
