The client for this project had the idea of creating an Arabic-style forum in one of the traditional windtower buildings in Dubai’s historic Bastakia area. When a run-down house became available, she worked with the municipality to revive the building, which now houses a café, hotel, shops and an art gallery, as well as hosting many cultural events, including an art fair. Careful restoration has preserved original features wherever possible. Traditional materials have been used in the structure, while the client has decorated the interior with local handicrafts. The result captures the heritage of the region while providing a unique cultural hub.
